Hi, I’m Sean James, the baker behind Urban Treats Micro Bakery.
I’ve been baking since 1996, when I began my apprenticeship as a baker and pastry chef in a supermarket bakery at just 16 years old.
After completing my apprenticeship, I went on to work in cake shops, hotels, and even spent time at Tip Top Bakeries — a massive, fully automated commercial bakery that was a real eye-opener into large-scale production.
These days, I still work in bakeries making fresh bread, but I also run my own micro bakery from home in Sydney. My focus is on sourdough bread and macarons, and I occasionally take on custom cake orders as well.
I started this blog as an extension of my YouTube channel, which has grown steadily and developed a fantastic community. After many requests for written versions of my tutorials, I’ve created this space to share those recipes, tips, and behind-the-scenes details in blog form.
I love this photo on the left—you can see how tired I was! I’d barely slept for two days while making this wedding cake for my friend. I was half asleep at the wedding!
Thanks for stopping by — I hope you find something here to inspire your next bake
